Simpson Building Group undertook major infrastructure works, replacing a leaking valve at Westmead Hospital. The leaking valve was a high pressure 150mm main that fed the hospital’s secondary water lines. The project was especially difficult due to a number of inherent site specific risks, primarily major services supplied to the hospital and surrounding outbuildings which were located within millimetres of the repair. There included fibre optic, Telstra, RTA traffic signals and Jemend Gas.
The 90 degree bend also installed required a cubic metre of concrete to be poured for bracing, otherwise due to the extreme pressure of the water mains there would have been a possibility of the elbow being blown off the joint. The repair was carried our incident free over 2 nights.
